My style

I love wedding photography and portrait photography because I love working with people. Big people, little people, people celebrating their love or their growing family. Most of all I love photographing FUN people! I don’t take myself too seriously and I like nothing better than having a laugh and a joke when I’m working!

I was trained using film and chemicals in a darkroom so I am a very strong believer in getting things like exposure and composition right in camera rather than relying on Photoshop to “fix” a poor image. That’s not to say I don’t use Photoshop, it’s a fantastic tool for enhancing images, but you can’t “polish a turd” as they say!

I do all my own post production, each shot is viewed and edited individually to ensure you get the best quality images in my signature style. It’s also partly because I’m a bit of a control freak! My aim when editing is to keep the images clean and fresh, I don’t use any Instagram style filters or effects such as selective colour. I want your images to stand the test of time, not look dated in a few years.

When it comes to taking photographs I understand that people are nervous and self conscious so I see it as my job to put people at ease as soon as possible so we can get on with capturing some amazing shots. I don’t believe having your photograph taken should be a traumatic experience and if you trust me I promise we’ll have a great time!

Weddings

From the moment you contact me I am there to guide you through the whole process. Firstly, we meet up for a cuppa and a chat about your big day, nothing formal, just a friendly chat about your ideas, the venue, your colour scheme and ideas for your photography.

If you feel a little bit nervous about having your photos taken you might want to add on a pre-wedding shoot before the big day. It’s a fantastic way for us to get to know each other better and to calm the nerves before the big day. We can go to the beach, have a picnic in the park or go to the pub, it’s up to you! Just mention it when we meet.

On the wedding day itself I will capture the atmosphere and emotion of the day as well as all those special little details that make your wedding unique. I won’t tell you what to do on your day and I won’t shout at your guests (yes it does happen!) My aim is to tell the story of your big day in a relaxed and unobtrusive way to produce images that you will cherish for years to come.

Portraits

It is a joy to photograph families and in particular small children. I love capturing their little personalities and expressions. The main focus for a family session is to keep the kids occupied; I aim for your images to look fun, relaxed and natural!

The location for your session is up to you but a favourite park, the woods, the beach, a field of spring flowers or maybe a tree-house are all excellent for keeping the kids entertained and happy. We can incorporate their interests and hobbies, using props and clothing to help their characters shine through and make your images truly unique!

I spent three years working for a well known portrait studio, working my way up to Style Director so I have plenty of experience working with children!
