Last year I took a break from weddings to shoot a commercial photography job for the Everyman theatre in Liverpool. The brief was “A day in the life of the Everyman”.
The client wanted to showcase every aspect of the theatre, capturing the soul of the building and the people who use it. They wanted to show the space as “more than a theatre” and to capture the hustle and bustle of the street cafe, the box office, the theatre bar and the bistro downstairs.
I started my day there in the street cafe around lunch time (if you go then I can strongly recommend the mackerel salad!). People of all ages were enjoying the freshly made food, some just popped in to read a book with a cuppa while others were holding business meetings over coffee.
Upstairs in the theatre bar there were more business meetings going on (this is where I did my recent 1 to 1 tuition session – just saying!) and a local theatre group even did some small workshops with teenagers looking at the university! It really is a fantastically versatile space!
The highlight for me was probably getting to pop into the kitchen to see the chefs cooking up some of their signature dishes for me to photograph AND then sample! This job certainly has a lot of perks!
Towards the end of the day I photographed the audience arriving for the evening performance, enjoying drinks in the bar before taking their seats in the auditorium. The day was topped off in style downstairs in the bistro where Liverpool Jazz Club were playing.
This was something very different for me to work on and I absolutely loved it! I’m going to the sister theatre, the Playhouse tomorrow to do the first of two shoots there and I’m equally excited about that!
Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention; you can hire the Everyman for your wedding! I’ve shot there a few times now and like I said before, it’s a great space! Take at look at Rachel & Adam’s big day from a couple of years ago! 🙂
